Everyone needs food to survive. People make food in their own very convenient ways. Some cook for themselves, some eats at restaurants and some have to eat ready-made packed food from local groceries stores. Unfortunately, college students like some of us don’t have the time or the opportunity to eat home cooked meals every day. Majority of us survive on those high in sodium packed microwavable food or in local restaurants. That is why I've decided for my final project to focus on restaurants within the area of Harvard square.
I've came up with an idea as a change agent, to make a difference in local restaurants to reduce their energy use or to get involved in the concept of “Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle”. This project is not just planned to help the environment but also the people. I want to give people the opportunities to be apart to doing something amazing for the environment or the earth.
Due to the time given to finish this project, I planned to get involved with at least two local restaurants.
I’ve written down the steps that I have to take in order to be successful in this project. (Please add any comments or advice down below.)
#1) Research.
Research on ways to lead restaurants to make green decisions.
Research on global environment crisis caused mainly by restaurants.
#2) Gather information.
Interview customers, waiters/waitress, and managers.
Survey.
Real life Research.
#3) Negotiate.
Get approvals.
Plan on the changes to be made.
#4) Decision.
Reach to a decision made which benefits both restaurant and environment.
#5) Maintain Progress.
Collect Data.
Overcome obstacles.
Come up with more plans for the future.
#6) Reflect.
Reflect on the progress that I've made throughout the project.
Learn from the mistakes made.
Cherish the experience that you gained.

  1. Hi Mi Mi, this looks like a potentially rewarding, though very ambitious project. You may wish to consider reducing the scope as you move forward but great start anyway. Rgds, Miguel

  2. Mi Mi, I would suggest that you try to find a model that IS working. In the book that I'm reading for the book report they talk about "bright spots", i.e. what is working. They mention that sometimes it's daunting to only hear what's not working, hence using examples of how thing are and can work is helpful, especially in a local context. So in your search for local restaurants I'd seek an example that seems like it is meeting your criteria and maybe try to use this as a model for a restaurant you'd like to try to help as a change agent. 3. Hi Mi Mi! This is a very interesting idea.

I guess that after your first research and interviews you will narrow it down to one or two specific measures. To facilitate this task I would have come with a menu of potential interventions while keeping your eyes/ears open to the specific particularities of each restaurant and to the staff/managers ideas.

I think it might prove challenging to fit the planning in the short time of the course it seems to me it is well designed.
